General Motors has disclosed additional information about the V6 4.3-liter engine inside the recently unveiled 2014 GMC Sierra.
The EcoTec3 mill is rated at 285 bhp (212 kW) and a peak torque of 305 lb-ft (413 Nm), thus providing the highest amount of torque from a standard V6 engine in this segment. Fitted with this engine, the 2014 Sierra has a maximum tow rating of 7,200 pounds (3,266 kg) for the regular cab, short bed four-wheel drive model.
According to General Motors, it offers 500 pounds (226 kg) more towing capacity compared to an equivalent Ford F-150 with a V6 3.7-liter and at the same time 700 pounds (317 kg) more than a V6 3.6-liter Ram 1500.
The V6 4.3-liter powering the latest Sierra comes with cylinder deactivation, direct injection, continuously variable valve timing and works together with a six-speed automatic transmission. EPA fuel economy numbers will be provided in the near future.
Scheduled to hit the market later this year, the 2014 GMC Sierra equipped with the V6 4.3-liter EcoTec3 engine starts from 25,085 USD (including 995 USD destination charge, but excluding tax, title, license and dealer fees).
