Chinese-owned MG is developing a range of GDI engines which will arrive late 2014 in China and a year later in Europe.

The family will include a three-cylinder, 1.0-liter turbocharged mill which will be an equivalent of Ford's EcoBoost. There will also be larger 1.4- and 1.5-liter turbocharged engines which are going to power the MG3, MG5 and a production version of the CS Concept shown at 2013 Auto Shanghai.

MG's managing director Paul McNamara said the company is also working on two dual clutch gearboxes. One will be a wet clutch variant that can handle 265 lb-ft (359 Nm) scheduled to reach Chinese market in 2013, while the other will be a dry clutch version supporting up to 165 lb-ft (223 Nm) which will be available in about two years from now.
