Nissan is hinting at a new sportscar slotted below the 370Z which will be unveiled at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show.

Earlier this year at NAIAS, Nissan's vice president Andy Palmer declared a new sports car is being developed. He described it as a "guilt-free" car "you love or hate" and announced plans for a preview concept set for a reveal later this year.

During the New York Auto Show he said "we think that there is room below that [370Z] for something very special. And for that we will see you at Tokyo." He added the new model could either be a gasoline-electric hybrid or a pure electric sportscar.

In other words, we should expect a production version of the 2011 Esflow Concept which had two 107 bhp (80 kW) electric motors enabling the car to reach 62 mph (100 km/h) in less than five seconds. The lithium-ion batteries provided a range of up to 149 miles (240 km) and were installed in the center just ahead of the rear axle.
