General Motors is back on Facebook almost a year after deciding to halt paid advertising on the social media website.

The first ad campaign is focused on the Chevrolet Sonic and is available only for the mobile version of Facebook. This move comes after May 2012 when GM decided to axe paid advertising because they considered ads were ineffective as these were too distracting to users according to their research.

This new Sonic ad will probably show up in some newsfeeds of those who access Facebook from their mobile phones. General Motors spokesman Ryndee Carney confirmed the company is once again paying Facebook for a new ad campaign.

Before General Motors stopped advertising on Facebook last year they had an approximate budget of 10M USD annually, which represents only a small portion of GM's annual global advertising budget of about 4.5 billion USD.
