The 2014 Audi A3 Cabrio has been spied on video for the first time, ahead of a possible debut later this year.

Following the launch of the A3/S3 Sedan, Audi is continuing development of the Cabrio version which is scheduled to go on sale next year. Speculation suggests it will be revealed to the public this September at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Despite the heavy camouflage, we can tell the new A3 Cabrio will be more stylish than its predecessor and will borrow design cues from the sedan variant. Expect to see LED-infused headlights, a prominent front grille and a retractable fabric roof. The prototype spotted in this video rides on five-spoke alloy wheels and has a dual exhaust setup.

Engine lineup will be borrowed from the A3 family which means we should see a 1.8-liter TFSI with 180 HP (132 kW) and a 2.0-liter TDI offered with 150 HP (110 kW) and 184 HP (132 kW). Audi could also be planning an S3 Cabriolet rated at 300 HP (221 kW) and a more powerful RS3 Cabrio with a 5-cylinder, 2.5-liter turbo engine generating 400 HP (294 kW).
