Mercedes-Benz is showcasing at New York Auto Show the production version of the B-Class Electric Drive scheduled to go on sale early next year.

The concept was presented at last year's Paris Motor Show and now the production model comes with an electric motor providing more than 100 kW (134 bhp) and 310 Nm (228 lb-ft) of torque, enough for the 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) run in less than ten seconds and an electronically-limited top speed of 100 mph (160 km/h).

A lithium-ion battery pack is installed in the underfloor to improve safety and maintain the same space as the regular B-Class. It provides a maximum range of 115 miles (200 km) and is rechargeable via a household socket. It takes less than two hours from a 240 V/40 A socket to charge the battery enough for a 60 miles (100 km) range.

Equipment available includes an Audio 20 system with a 14.7cm color display, twin tuner, MP3, USB and CD Player. Becker MAP PILOT takes care of the navigation, while COMAND Online brings internet access with LINGUATRONIC voice control available as an extra option. Safety package has a radar-based collision warning system, as well as Active Parking Assist, Lane Keeping Assist and Blind Spot Assist.
