Audi chief Rupert Stadler says Lamborghini will start making the Urus towards the end of 2016.

Stadler added Lamborghini "has to do it" and according to Autocar, it will be based on a new version of the MLB platform which will be used for the next-gen Audi Q7, Volkswagen Touareg and Porsche Cayenne. Although it will be similar to the current MLB platform, the new variant will come with more extensive use of lightweight materials.

The platform will see the combination of aluminum in cast, extruded and pressed forms, along with traditional steel pressings, while the two materials are going to be glued and riveted together just about the same as Jaguar did for the XJ structure. In addition, this updated MLB platform is believed to encompass a new type of carbon fiber.

Rupert Stadler mentioned the Urus is set to be green-lighted for production sometime this year.
