Volkswagen's CEO Martin Winterkorn is willing to add a 13th member to the company's portfolio if opportunity should arise.

We've heard rumors about Volkswagen's intentions of extending its portfolio about a month ago and now Winterkorn has confirmed its intentions. With 12 brands so far in the family, the company's CEO says "there are always opportunities that one cannot pass up". He added there aren't any projects considered right now but they are "always wide awake to what's happening in the world."

As a reminder, Chairman Ferdinand Piech mentioned several times Volkswagen is interested in purchasing Alfa Romeo from Fiat, even though Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne says the Italian marque is not for sale. When asked if VW is interested in Alfa Romeo, Winterkorn responded with "Alfa Romeo is a great brand", so in other words, yes.
