Volkswagen has revealed the all-electric version of the up! which is being showcased this week at the Annual Press and Investors Conference in Wolfsburg.

After announcing a hybrid version of the up! due in about two years, VW has made a surprise move today by presenting the e-up! which will be available on order towards the end of the year. It will be presented in Frankfurt this September, four years after the concept.

The electric motor has a peak power of 82 HP (60 kW) and a continuous output of 55 HP (40 kW). With an instant torque of 210 Nm (155 lb-ft), the Volkswagen e-up! needs 14 seconds from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) and is capable of reaching a top speed of 84 mph (135 km/h). The 18.7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack will be enough for a 150 km (93.2 mile) range and can be charged to an 80 percent level in 30 minutes.

The 1,185 kg (2,612 lbs) e-up! is distinguished by its curved LED daytime running lights, while the underbody, sills and front end have been aerodynamically optimized. It sits on 15-inch machine-polished alloys and on the inside it gets light-grey seat covers with blue stitching, along with bespoke leather and chrome accents.
