BMW topped global luxury segment last month

BMW regained the number one position in global luxury car sales in February, with Audi falling into second place and Mercedes-Benz on third.

The Bavarian automaker climbed into top spot thanks to a strong demand of models like the 3-Series and X1 which helped BMW's sales in February jump by 7 percent, more than Audi's 3.2 percent increase. In the first two months of the year, BMW delivered 407 more cars compared to Audi.

Mercedes-Benz sales dropped by 5.8 percent in February, managing to deliver 37,229 less cars through last month than BMW. The Stuttgart-based firm says they will be introducing new models (CLA, E-Class facelift, new S-Class) in the upcoming months which should increase sales. They will also boost A- and B-Class production by adding 21 extra shifts at their plant in Rastatt, Germany. Saturday production will be added to their Kecskemet, Hungary plant from April, while more SUVs will be made at the Tuscaloosa, Alabama factory in U.S.
