Saab planned to introduce a new 9-3 at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, but fate intervened as the company was forced to file for bankruptcy four months before the car was set to be unveiled. Now a former Saab employee has reportedly leaked images of the car that never got a chance to see production.

Penned under the watchful eye of Jason Castriota - who had previously worked on the Maserati GranTurismo, Bertone Mantide and Saab PhoeniX concept - the 2013 9-3 had an attractive design that borrowed cues from the 9-4X and 9-5. The hatchback, in particular, has a somewhat retro appearance as its rear end is heavily influenced by the Saab 900.

Saab had plans to offer three different body styles including a sedan, hatchback and convertible. Castriota was reportedly pushing for a coupe, but it appears the company didn't green-light the model as they wanted to focus on the mainstream variants first.
