The diesel version of the Chevrolet Cruze will be unveiled on February 7 during a news conference.

General Motors spokesman Terry Rhadigan confirmed yesterday a diesel Cruze will be showcased at the Chicago event before going on sale later this year. Production will commence at GM's Lordstown assembly plant near Youngstown, Ohio in the second quarter and cars should arrive in dealerships in April or May.

General Motors North America President Mark Reuss said the company wants to offer more models with diesel engines in the United States. The diesel trend in the U.S. will be carried over by other automakers in the next couple of years, with Jeep already announcing a diesel version of the Grand Cherokee.
