In an effort to combat the horrible accidents that are caused by Geisterfahrers (Ghost Drivers), Mercedes has introduced a new system which aims to eliminate 'wrong-way' drivers.

Designed to prevent people from unintentionally travelling into oncoming traffic, the system uses a windscreen-mounted camera to look for no-entry signs. When the vehicle is about to pass one, three loud beeps are issued and a large no-entry symbol appears on the instrument cluster.

While the system cannot stop all Geisterfahrers, it has the potential to save lives. In the past three months, more than 25 people have been killed in Germany due to wrong way drivers.

The new system will debut later this year on the facelited E-Class as well as the 2014 S-Class.
