Volkswagen will be bringing to the Detroit Motor Show next week the Passat Performance Concept.
The main highlight of this production-ready concept is a 4-cylinder, 1.8-liter turbocharged engine from the EA888 family which is capable of developing 250 hp (186 kW). Already available in Europe and Asia, this TSI power unit is set to replace later this year the 2.5-liter inline-5 in United States. In this concept it comes connected to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Looking slightly revised, this could turn out to be a preview of a future R-Line model. Riding on 19-inch alloys and with a lowered sports suspension, the Passat Performance Concept comes with a revised front bumper featuring honeycomb inserts, bi-xenon headlights and LED taillights. Also at the back there are dual pipes, while inside the cabin Volkswagen says it has two-tone leather upholstery, carbon-like inserts on the dashboard and a black headliner.
