Fiat has announced plans to build two new crossovers at their Melfi plant in Italy.
Following an investment of more than €1 ($1.3) billion, the plant will be able to start assembling an entry-level Jeep and the Fiat 500X. Both models will ride on the company's Small Wide platform and be available with all-wheel drive.
The Jeep will be the first vehicle to go into production and it will be sold globally. The Fiat 500X will follow shortly thereafter and the company hinted that the plant can accommodate two additional models.
Once all the upgrades are completed at the plant, Fiat expects it will produce 1,600 vehicles a day.
