Toyota slammed with 17.35M USD fine for delayed Lexus recall

Toyota will have to pay a hefty 17.35 million USD fine because they delayed the recall for Lexus SUVs.

The U.S. government has fined Toyota for postponing the recall of 154,036 Lexus RX 350 and RX 450h units from 2010MY that had pedal entrapment problems. In addition, the Japanese company has agreed to make some internal quality assurance changes and also review its safety-related problems in the United States, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

That sum represents the maximum allowable fine in the United States and at the same time is the highest civil penalty amount paid to the NHTSA for violations related to a recall. Toyota is currently involved in lawsuits that have to do with recalls related to the aforementioned pedal entrapment problem.
