BMW and Boeing join forces for carbon fiber research

BMW and Boeing have announced a collaboration to research carbon fiber manufacturing and recycling.

BMW and Boeing have announced a collaboration to research carbon fiber manufacturing and recycling.

This joint research will be done in Washington where the automaker has a factory that manufactures carbon fiber material, while Boeing has the assembly facility for the 787 Dreamliner.

BMW plans on using carbon fiber for its upcoming i3 and i8 models that will be assembled in Leipzig, Germany. This material is very important for Boeing since the 787 Dreamliner is made up of 50 percent carbon fiber material.

The two companies will share information with one another in a move to further develop this lightweight and very strong material.
