Nissan confirms 15 new hybrids by 2016

Nissan has announced plans to launch 15 new hybrids by 2016.

The company neglected to say which models will receive the hybrid treatment, but some of them will likely feature Nissan's new hybrid system which consists of a supercharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery.

Speaking at a press conference in Yokohama, Nissan Chief Operating Officer Toshiyuki Shiga said “Thanks to environmentally friendly technology and new products, we are completely in line with our targets for the reduction of C02 in the usage of vehicles." He added that the company will minimize their use of scarce natural resources, offer industry-leading fuel efficiency and maintain the lead in zero-emission (EV) technology.
