The Subaru Highway Automated Response Concept (SHARC) has won the 2012 L.A. Design Challenge.
Various automakers like BMW, Honda, Mercedes-Benz and General Motors participated this year in the competition of creating a 2025 highway patrol car. All entries were judged by multi-discipline design professionals that selected the winner by taking into consideration factors such as: speed and agility on future freeway systems; creativity, environmental sensitivity and meeting the specific region's mandated emission standards.
The SHARC was envisioned as an affordable and environmentally-conscious highway patrol vehicle meeting Hawaii's UltraGreen carbon-neutral environmental regulations. It is powered by renewable energy and it's fully autonomous which means that it doesn't need a large highway patrol staff.
