2015 Toyota Prius to feature an e-4WD system - report

New details are starting to emerge about the 2015 Toyota Prius.

According to an Auto Express source, "The current 1.8-liter engine will be modified, while the inverter and [electric] motor will be downsized but will deliver more power.” This will enable the model to offer improved performance and fuel efficiency. Speaking of the latter, the car is rumored to return more than 90 mpg UK (74.9 mpg US ; 3.1 L/100km) and have CO2 emissions of less than 70 g/km.

More interestingly, the Prius could have an e-4WD system which has an electric motor that powers the rear wheels. Designed to increase the model's appeal in snowy climates, the system will reportedly work at speeds up to 37 mph (59 km/h).

The Prius could also keep its nickel-metal hydride battery because engineers feel they manage power delivery better than new lithium-ion batteries.
