Caterham has introduced their new Supersport R.
Based on the standard Supersport, the R variant features a limited slip differential, Avon CR500 tires and a track-oriented suspension with race springs and sporty dampers. There's also a bespoke steering wheel, a gear-shift indicator and composite race seats with four-point harnesses.
Power is provided by a 2.0-liter Ford Duratec engine that produces 180 bhp (134 kW) and 143 lb-ft (194 Nm) of torque - 40 bhp (30 kW) and 23 lb-ft (31 Nm) more than the Supersport. It is connected to a five-speed manual transmission which enables the 535 kg (1,179 lb) sports car to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds and hit a top speed of 130 mph (209 km/h).
According to Caterham Chief Executive Graham Macdonald, "The Supersport’s formula has struck a chord with driving enthusiasts and we are confident that, by extending the range to include an R model, we will be able to build on the original’s success."
Kit pricing starts at £24,995, while fully-built models retail for £27,995.
