Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG breaks cover

These are the first official photos of the upcoming Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG.

While a previous report was indicating that the car’s tuned 4-cylinder 2.0-liter turbo engine would output 330 hp (246 kW) and more than 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque, AMG’s engineers have managed to squeeze 350 hp (261 kW) and 332 lb-ft (450 Nm). The power will be sent to all four wheels via an AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT seven-speed dual clutch sports transmission.

As you would expect, the chassis has been revised and comes with new steering system, 25mm lowered suspension, as well as beefier brakes, updated electronic aids and wider track. Other highlights include 18-inch (19-inch optional) multi-spoke wheels with 235/40 profile Dunlop Sport Maxx tires, trapezoidal tailpipes and honeycomb grill inserts.

According to Mercedes-Benz officials, the A45 AMG will need 5.1 seconds to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) and reach a top speed of 155 mph (249 km/h) and 168 mph (279 km/h) when equipped with the optional performance package.

It will ride on a tweaked version of the A-Class' MacPherson front and multi-link rear suspension. The A45 AMG's combined fuel consumption is estimated at above 40 mpg UK (33.3 mpg US or 7.06 liters / 100 km).

Autocar is reporting a price tag of approximately 36,000 pounds, while the optional performance package will be an extra 3,000 pounds.

An official unveiling will be made next March during the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.
