Mercedes-Benz is offering heavy discounts to some buyers in an attempt to maintain its lead over BMW in the U.S.
According to a memo sent on October 2 to dealers, Mercedes-Benz offered a program to "VIP customers" for its 2012MY cars that included important discounts. These cash offers included a $750 discount for C-Class, $2,250 for E-Class, $3,000 for GLK-Class, $3,275 for S-Class and $5,000 for GL-Class.
Aside from the price cuts, Mercedes-Benz has introduced a five-payment program for those who bought 2010 models. It refers to waiving as many as three payments if these customers decide to purchase a new or certified used car. According to an e-mail sent to dealers, this deal also allows owners of all types of models (excluding ML450 Hybrid) to skip five payments to either buy or lease a 2012MY or 2013MY via Mercedes-Benz Financial Services.
Through this year’s first nine months, Mercedes-Benz has managed to deliver 5,221 more cars than BMW.
In related news, Mercedes-Benz spokesman Donna Boland confirmed the 2013 S-Class will get a new body style next year.
