According to a recent report, Maserati's entry-level sedan will be based on the same platform that underpins the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger and Lancia Thema.

According to a recent report, Maserati's entry-level sedan will be based on the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger and Lancia Thema.

Autocar is reporting the model, which could be called the Levante, will ride on a modified version of Chrysler's rear-wheel drive architecture. It will reportedly share the same 3052mm wheelbase with the other sedans and feature attractive styling that was developed in-house.

The magazine also says the 2013 Quattroporte rides on an extended version of the same platform. If this pans out, the model could measure approximately 5.2 meters (17 feet) long.

While it may sound odd that Maserati would base their vehicles on a Chrysler product, the production version of the Kubang concept will essentially be a rebadged Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Regardless, the Levante could be unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show and go on sale in early 2014.
