Mitsubishi has released new details about the Mirage, ahead of its Japanese launch of August 31st.

Originally unveiled at the 2012 Tokyo Motor Show, the entry-level hatchback is designed to be compact, affordable and highly fuel-efficient.

Interior amenities are limited, but higher end variants can be equipped with automatic climate control and an infotainment system.

Power comes from a 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine that produces 69 PS (51 kW / 68 hp) and 86 Nm (63 lb-ft) of torque. It is connected to a continuously variable transmission which enables the model to return up to 27.2 km/liter (3.6 L/100km / 63.9 mpg US / 76.8 mpg UK) when equipped with an optional engine start/stop system.

In Japan, the Mirage will be priced from ¥998,000.
