Volkswagen has introduced two new engines for the Beetle, representing a new flagship model and a more powerful diesel.

The flagship 2.0-liter TSI engine is available exclusively in the Sport trim and generates 200PS (147kW/197 hp) and can be mated with either six-speed manual or six-speed DSG gearbox. The latter of which allows the car to perform the 0-100kph(62mph) sprint in 7.5 seconds on its way to a top speed of 139 mph. Pricing for the flagship starts at £22,295 while with the DSG automatic gearbox sets consumers back an extra £1510.

The flagship Beetle is distinguished by bespoke headlamp clusters, red brake calipers, chrome-capped mirrors, body-colored diffuser, 18-inch alloys and chrome dual exhaust tips as well a specially developed multi-link rear suspension setup.

The new diesel engine set to arrive in the Beetle line-up will be a 2.0-liter TDI that can be ordered for the Design and Sport trim levels. The turbocharged unit produces 140PS (103kW/138hp) and allows the Beetle to return 4.9-liters/100km (57.6MPG UK / 47.9MPG US) while CO2 emissions stand at 129 g/km.
