Our spies have been on hand to catch a glimpse of the new MINI paceman on video as it gears up for its unveiling later this year.

The model is essentially a three-door version of the Countryman which lead to a lot of debate over what label it would be identified as. It initially started out as the Paceman before rumors surfaced it will be the Countryman Coupe, however officials have now settled on its original name.

MINI's latest model was showcased in concept form at the Detroit Auto Show in January and judging by the looks of this prototype, styling appears largely unchanged. Therefore we expect to see the production version come with a sloping roofline, an upward sweeping shoulder line and a unique tailgate.

Engine options are likely to mirror the offerings of the Countryman. This includes a 1.6-liter four-cylinder with 122 PS (90 kW / 120 hp) and a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder with 184 PS (135 kW / 181 hp). A high performance MINI Paceman JCW is also set for production and is likely to employ a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder with 218 PS (160 kW / 215 hp).

Expect to see the production-ready MINI Paceman at the forthcoming Paris Motor Show in September.
