In a quest to meet ever stringent fuel economy and emissions standards, Aston Martin gave us an expensive and underwhelming version of the Toyota iQ.

Now, the heresy is reaching critical mass as CEO Ulrich Bez has revealed the company is considering significantly smaller engines. Speaking with AutoCar, Bez said "Four or even three cylinders are possible. If the spirit of the times demands six cylinders, then it has to be looked at."

Aston Martin's position is understandable and Bez assured the downsized engines would "never undermine exclusivity" as the brand has to remain "special."
