Mercedes has officially announced plans to build a crossover based on the MFA platform that currently underpins the A- and B-Class.
The company declined to go into specifics, but said the model will be built in Rastatt, Germany. As part of the ramp up for production, Mercedes will invest an additional €600 million into the plant to ensure that it is properly equipped to handle the anticipated demand.
As we have previously reported, the model could be called the BLK or GLC and feature sporty styling with a coupe-like roofline. Engine options will likely carryover from the A- and B-Class and a launch could occur as early as 2014 or 2015.
