Nissan has released the first details about the 2013 Note, ahead of its launch in September.

Previewed by the Invitation concept, the JDM-spec model has aerodynamic styling with a prominent grille, a sloping roofline and a distinctive "squash line."

The interior is relatively sparse and features a lot of hard plastics. This is a bit disappointing, but the car can be equipped with an electronic climate control system, GPS navigation and an Around View Monitor.

In Japan, two engines will be available: a supercharged three-cylinder HR12DDR (DIG-S) and a HR12DE. They will be connected to a next-generation continuously variable transmission which promises to deliver class-leading fuel efficiency.

The European variant will be unveiled early next year and feature "unique styling details" as well as a dynamic chassis setup.
