Rumors have surfaced that Toyota are planning on introducing a new all-electic sportscar to the market. The model was tentatively previewed at the recent Goodwood Festival of Speed in the form of the 2000GT EV (pictured) which incorporated an early part of the development process.

The powertrain will consist of an electric motor mated with a manual gearbox that will work alongside a torque altering alternator. The transmission choice immediately strikes the button, it is an unusual step for a manufacturer to produce a manual gearbox for an all-electric vehicle.

The sports car is unfortunately quite a few years from production. Sources have stated the technology will debut in a city car that is still at least three years away before thoughts of a manual electric sports car can materialise.
