According to a recent report, BMW will introduce the 1-Series M coupe successor at the 2014 North American International Auto Show.

Set to be called the M235i coupe, the model will be based on the 2-Series coupe which is expected to be unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. It's essentially a 1-Series coupe, but BMW has decided to rename the coupe and convertible variants of the 1- and 3-Series the 2- and 4-Series so they are closer aligned with the 6-Series.

The mechanicals will carryover from the M135i, so expect a 3.0-liter six-cylinder engine that produces 320 PS (235 kW / 315 hp) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque. It will reportedly be paired to a six-speed manual transmission, but a dual-clutch automatic should be optional. The model will be equipped with rear-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive could be available.
