BMW has announced plans to offer a new entry-level engine and an all-wheel drive system on the 1-Series.

Starting under the hood, the 114i features a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with 102 PS (75 kW / 101 hp) and 180 Nm (133 lb-ft) of torque. When connected to a six-speed manual transmission, the model accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 11.2 seconds and has a top speed of 195 km/h (121 mph). The stats aren't too exciting, but the car averages 5.5 L/100km (42.7 mpg US / 51.3 mpg UK) with CO2 emissions of 129 g/km.

BMW also revealed xDrive (all-wheel drive) will be available on three- and five-door models starting in November.
