The all-new Renault Clio RS made its first appearance on the road last week when our spies capitalized on an opportune moment. Now we can reveal a few further details of the upcoming performance model.

It was originally expected that an upgraded version of the existing model's 2.0-liter unit would be used but a report filed by Autocar states it will be replaced by a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine. The same unit is currently found in the Nissan Juke with 187hp (139kW/190kW) but it will be upgraded to at least 197 bhp (147 kW / 200 PS) for the Clio RS. The new engine will be connected to a new dual-clutch gearbox that will be operated by paddle-shifters.

The style of the Clio RS will differentiate it from the standard model by its sporty front fascia with lower lip spoiler and enlarged upper and lower grille areas. The side will have sporty skirts, arcing lower door moldings while the rear will incorporate a dual tailpipe layout.

We expect to see the Renault Clio RS unveiled for the first time at the Paris Motor Show in September.
