Mitsubishi has announced plans to introduce the Outlander Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) at the Paris Motor Show.

Previewed by the PX-MiEV II concept, the production model will have a petrol engine and two electric motors (one front, one rear). This will enable the crossover to have a four-wheel drive system and three different drive modes:

  • Pure (electric-only)
  • Series (electric motors running with the petrol engine recharging the batteries)
  • Parallel (electric motors and petrol engine working together to provide motivation)

Additional information is limited, but Mitsubishi said the model will be launched next year and have specifications that are similar to the concept. This means we can expect an average fuel consumption of 60 km/liter (1.7 liters/100km / 141.1 mpg US / 169.5 mpg UK), an overall range of 800 km (497 miles) and CO2 emissions of less than 50 g/km.
