Lexus could be developing an entry-level GS hybrid to battle the BMW 520d EfficientDynamics and Audi A6 2.0 TDI.

Speaking with Auto Express, Lexus GS deputy chief engineer Koji Sato said "We are working on a number of solutions to offer low CO2 emissions, and these include a small hybrid."

That's a little vague, but the magazine speculates the model will be called the GS 300h and use a hybridized 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine from the Lexus ES 300h and Toyota Camry Hybrid.

If everything pans out, the model could be introduced at the Paris Motor Show and go on sale late next year.
