The first two generations of the MINI Cooper has been limited to the less convenient three door body style, but news has arrived on the webosphere that the new model will also be available in five-door guise as well.

The BMW-owned brand made the decision following pressure from potential customers who want a more practical entrance for young children. The new body style will shy away from the suicide rear-hinged doors that are used by the MINI Clubman and use conventional hinged doors instead.

Engineers have managed to overcome the challenges of creating a sub-four meter five-door car by slightly extending the wheelbase and shortening the front driver and passenger doors.

The five-door MINI Cooper will only be available with the standard engine with the higher performing S variant reserved for the three door body style.
