Skoda has released the first official sketches of the upcoming Rapid sedan that is due to hit European showrooms before the end of the year. It represents the first official look at the model following the initial unveiling of the pre-production MissionL Concept earlier this year.

The new Rapid will sit in the Skoda line-up between the Fabia and Octavia and emits a new design language that is due to spread to the company's other models over the next few years. Progressive changes from concept to production appear to be fairly minimal.

Dimensions are only slightly below the Octavia, therefore Skoda will limit the engine range to sub-2.0-liter units to prevent it from stepping on its sibling's toes.

The Skoda Rapid will also head to Chinese showrooms in 2013 following an official unveiling at the Paris Motor Show in September.
