In a 2006 NASCAR Dodge Charger, Jim Peruto broke the world record on May 20th for averaging 217 mph (349 km/h) on a 90 mile (145 km) stretch of Nevada State Highway 318 during the Silver State Classic Challenge. Not only did Peruto break the record, but he smashed it, as the previous record set by Chuck Schafer and Gary Bockman in 2011 was set at 207mph (333 km/h).
In the video, which includes colorful commentary, we see the Charger do a flyby at terrific speed. The far distance of the video camera from the road allows us to really guage just how fast 240+mph really is. In fact, Peruto hits a top speed of 255 mph (410 km/h) during this run.
