The luxury sales race is about to go to the next level as Audi, BMW and Mercedes are about to launch a variety of new models in a quest to become the world's largest luxury automaker.
While BMW will likely keep the crown for the foreseeable future, the battle for second place is shaping up to be the one to watch. According to forecasts from the Center of Automotive Research at Duisburg-Essen University, Mercedes will reclaim the #2 spot in 2015 after losing it to Audi in 2011. If their predictions hold out, Mercedes will sell 1.68 million vehicles while Audi will move 1.63 million units.
In order to do this, Mercedes will introduce five vehicles based on the MFA platform as well as "10 new derivatives for which no predecessor models exist." Audi, on their part, isn't going down without a fight and has promised to sell 2 million vehicles annually by 2020.
