Chevrolet has been using the SS moniker for decades, but the company has just filed a trademark for the legendary name.

This has raised suspicion that Chevrolet will introduce a standalone model called the SS. Nothing is official, but the company recently announced plans to enter the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series with a "vehicle based on a new nameplate to the brand's lineup."
