With the all-new generation Audi A6 released almost a year and a half ago, Audi has accelerated the launch of their next RS model to compete with its Bavarian mid-size rival, the recently launched BMW (F10) M5.

The daily commuting vehicle of supercar owners typically has to satisfy several criteria. In order of importance first, it must have near supercar performance combined with tastefully restrained sport styling, top quality interior and the ultility of a wagon or SUV. Audi answers this exclusive niche with their Audi RS6 Avant.

With the all-new generation Audi A6 released almost a year and a half ago, Audi has accelerated the launch of their next RS model to compete with its Bavarian mid-size rival, the recently launched BMW (F10) M5. As a result, spy photographers have caught a camouflaged Audi RS6 Avant prototype testing for the first time at the famous Nürburgring.

Sporting its characteristic dual oval exhaust tips, reports place the same 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8 shared with Bentley in the super sport wagon. The unit will be configured to deliver 580 PS (427 kW / 572 bhp) to keep the model competitive with its BMW arch-rival that comes with 560 PS (412 kW / 552 hp).

The Audi RS6 Avant is expected to debut in Europe at the end of this year as a 2013 model and possibly 2014 for the US. This is pure speculation at this point, but with the recent introductions of the TT-RS and RS5 models to North American, the prospect of the RS6 sedan making it there is quite good.
