Chevrolet axes the Avalanche - introduces Black Diamond edition to celebrate

Chevrolet has announced plans to discontinue the Avalanche after the 2013 model year.

A pioneer in its segment, the model was best known for having an innovate midgate that allowed the bed to extend into the cabin. While this was a unique feature, sales have tapered off and Chevrolet decided it was time to retire the model.

To celebrate, the company will introduce a Black Diamond special edition which has body-color bed rails, unique badging and additional standard equipment. It will be powered by a 5.3-liter V8 engine with 320 hp (239 kW / 324 PS) and 335 lb-ft (453 Nm) of torque.
