The horsepower wars are coming to an end and the fuel economy battle is only just beginning. Unfortunately, the change in engineering directives means the future of some high powered gas guzzling models is bleak. One of those vehicles was thought to be the Ford Shelby GT500, but a report filed by Mustangs Daily reveals that isn't the case.
Shelby American president John Luft has confirmed the GT500 will continue to be part of the Mustang series in the next generation. Shelby has extended its contract with the American brand to continue beyond 2015.
Their business plan involves the limited production run of Shelby induced Mustangs such as the GT350, GTS and GT500 Super Snake which leaves Ford the area of high volume production.
Ford is expected to introduce the next generation Mustang in 2014 as a 2015 model.
