SRT has released some new promotional videos for the 2013 Viper.
In one of the clips, chief engineer Graham Henckel confirmed the company considered using a Maserati platform. However, they decided it wouldn't work because it was too heavy and couldn't accommodate the car's hallmark styling.
The Viper also features a Bosch stability control system that is "never in the way" but will "save your ass when you're really in trouble." It starts fully on, but can be completely turned off.
Under the hood, the 8.4-liter V10 engine has been equipped with a composite intake, high-strength forged pistons, sodium-filled exhaust valves and new catalysts. This enables it to produce approximately 640 hp (477 kW / 649 PS) and 600 lb-ft (814 Nm) of torque - 40 hp (30 kW / 41 PS) and 40 lb-ft (54 Nm) more than the previous engine.
