According to a recent report, Renault is considering a new sedan to battle the Volkswagen Passat and Opel / Vauxhall Insignia.

Details are limited, but the model could slot above the Laguna and be influenced by the Renault-Samsung SM7.  The car hasn't been approved for production, but speculation suggests it could be launched in 2016.

Speaking with Autocar, Renault marketing chief Stephen Norman said "We can't leave the Passat to succeed on its own in the upper-medium market." He added, "Fifty percent of the upper-medium car market is in the UK and Germany. If you want to succeed in that market, you have to succeed in those countries."

In the meantime, the company is developing a next-generation Laguna which could be launched in 2015. It might be offered as a sedan, a hatchback or possibly a hatchback with sedan-like styling (think: Opel / Vauxhall Insignia Hatch and Skoda Superb Twindoor).
