The fifth generation version was the second best selling car in the United States in 2011, therefore the latest incarnation will be looking to continue the strong sales tradition.

The engine line-up has a familiar feel with the same engines as the fifth generation model available at launch, albeit with a bit of fuel economy busting tuning. The options include the 2.5-liter DOHC inline 4-cylinder engine with an output of 182 horsepower (136 kW / 185 PS) that is capable of achieving a best in class fuel economy figure of 38mpg. The range topper is a 3.5-liter V6 that pumps 270 horsepower (201 kW / 274 PS) to the wheels.

Nissan has targeted a premium level exterior design with a bulkier and more powerful presence while the car's aerodynamics have also been improved over its predecessor.

Pricing for the new 2013 Nissan Altima will start at $21,500 for the base model while the range topping 3.5 SL CVT trim level will start at $30,080. The first models are due to arrive in dealerships in the summer.
