Volkswagen has announced plans to introduce the Alltrack concept at the New York Auto Show.

Like the European production model, the concept is a high-riding wagon with plastic body cladding, matte chrome trim and a dual exhaust system.

Power comes from a 2.0-liter TDI engine with 140 hp (104 kW / 142 PS) and 236 lb-ft (320 Nm) of torque. It is connected to a six-speed DSG transmission as well as a 4Motion all-wheel drive system.

To help butch up the wagon's abilities, it is equipped with an off-road driving program. When activated, it increases the threshold for the anti-lock braking system and ensures the electronic differential acts more quickly.

While Volkswagen has "no plans to bring this vehicle to market in the United States," they are considering a similarly-sized model that combines "offroad ability with wagon versatility."
