Codenamed M156, the prototype continues to wear the thick panels to hide the eventual styling but we are pretty sure the profile will look very different to the appearance we see here. The new Quattroporte will take on a sportier four-door coupe body style similar to the Mercedes CLS, the Audi A7 Sportback and the Porsche Panamera. Dimensions are also set to grow in comparison to its predecessor to make room for a baby Quattroporte in the Maserati line-up.

Power is expected to be generated from a 4.7-liter V8 engine with an output of around 475 PS (354 kW / 469 bhp) and will be mated with the ZF eight-speed automatic transmission system.

Maserati are developing a new platform for their latest model that will make extensive use of lightweight aluminum. It will also be capable of implementing a hybrid drive powertrain and although it will be primarily rear-wheel-drive, the all-wheel-drive system from the Ferrari FF is also being considered.

Look for the next generation Maserati Quattroporte to be launched during 2013 as a 2014 model.
