Volvo has released a new promotional video for their C30 Electric.
In the latest clip, the company highlights the car's climate control system which has been specifically designed to maximize the vehicle's range in cold climates.
The pre-conditioning system uses an immersion heater to warm the battery and passenger compartment when the vehicle is charging. While the system runs on a pre-programmed schedule, it will automatically activate when the temperature reaches -15° C (5° F) in the core of the battery.
There's also an optional fuel-heater system that can be powered by petrol or bio-ethanol. It maximizes the vehicle's range because it requires less energy than the standard electric-based heating system. However, these systems can work together to raise the cabin temperature to a reasonable level within a "few minutes."
